10. Kirk Kordeleski
2011 Power List
Kirk Kordeleski is an old soul in a new world. His character and demeanor are reminiscent of a CEO from the golden age of banking, but his ability to perceive trends and deftly navigate a large financial institution through catastrophic economic times suggests Kordeleski also fits the profile of the modern-day leader. Like his predecessors at Grumman, where Bethpage Federal Credit Union (BFCU) was born, Kordeleski recognizes the importance of community giving and outreach. Though BFCU is a multi-billion dollar institution and the Island’s largest credit union, Kordeleski is more likely to tout the numerous civil-minded projects it supports. The BFCU Air Show at Jones Beach has become a touchstone event where thousands of Long Islanders gather to pay homage to our storied collective past as an integral part of the defense and aerospace industry. Kordeleski has also taken a more prominent role on the board of the Long Island Association, recently heading the search committee that ultimately tapped Power List Hall of Famer Kevin Law to lead the LIA. But don’t just take it from us. BFCU took the top honors in its own industry this year, receiving the Diamond Award from the Credit Union National Association for outstanding marketing and business development.
