20. Kevin Law
2014 Power List
Considering all he’s involved in, Kevin Law really deserves to be known as “The Chairman of Long Island,” as some of his friends and associates have playfully called him. We’ve never heard him sing like Sinatra, but we do know he’s got his fingers on the pulse of what makes this Island tick. And he’s always looking out for what’s best for our region. From the Long Island Housing Partnership to Accelerate Long Island (an alliance of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, Brookhaven National Laboratory and Stony Brook University to promote high-tech development here) and Long Island Regional Economic Development Council (REDC), Law is ready and willing to lead the way. This past year he helped Long Island win REDC grants from the state and made sure that Long Island’s new Start-Up NY program and its remaining manufacturers qualified for the state’s corporate tax cuts. Law was there in the fight to keep the FAA air traffic control facility from moving off the Island, keeping those high-paying jobs here at home. Long Island’s business is his business—and that’s the way he likes it. And so do we.
