30. Robert & James Coughlan
2016 Power List
With offices in East Setauket and Washington, D.C., this enterprising pair of brothers has come a long way since founding their company in 1986. They’ve certainly left their mark on Long Island as the principals of one of the most successful companies developing, constructing and managing real estate assets. Their New Village at Patchogue is an exemplary model of what a mixed-used development should be, with 291 residential units nesting above commercial space, and 18,000 square feet of office space above retail in a fully renovated 120-year-old building, all designed to make the downtown area come alive. Retail leasing has been heating up, with nearly 70 percent leased, and new openings and ribbon-cuttings there almost weekly. Thanks to their leadership at TRITEC, the Ronkonkoma Hub is not just on the drawing boards, it’s taking shape as a transit-oriented, mixed-use sustainable community development that will create jobs, add tax revenue, and become a destination for the region. And now they’ve got their got their sights focused on the Village of Lindenhurst, so we can expect more signs of progress coming soon. These extraordinary brothers are revitalizing and revolutionizing Long Island, one project and neighborhood at a time.
