35. Geri Barish

For almost 20 years, Barish has been the general in the war against one of LI women’s most pressing health issues: breast cancer. Barish knows the fight well, because she is a survivor. She is recognized throughout the state as a leading advocate and has bent the ear of every politician and healthcare expert she has come in contact with since she began her crusade. Barish’s efforts led to plenty of legislation being passed to help fight the disease. She also heads up Hewlett House, a place for cancer victims and their families to receive support, information and find others facing the fear that comes with fighting the disease. Last year, Barish was not on the list, but previously placed in the Top 10. She’s most likely back for good.
