41. Fredrick K. Brewington
2011 Power List
When the Nassau GOP pushed through a plan to redraw the county’s legislative districts this year, Fred was in the front row leading the charge that minority communities would suffer watered-down representation. When former Gov. David Paterson last year commuted the sentence for John White, the black Miller Place man convicted of shooting a white teen in a case that exposed Long Island’s racial fault lines, Brewington was the attorney who helped free him. When families of those who died at the hands of police are looking for justice, they turn to Brewington. Those who love him call him the Thurgood Marshall of LI. Those who don’t call him the Johnny Cochran of LI. But love him or hate him, even his adversaries know Fredrick Brewington is a powerhouse in his prime.
