2004 Power List
Newsday’s editorial page editor still controls the paper’s political endorsements, but last year’s Democratic primary suggested that Long Islanders don’t much care about Newsday’s endorsement. The paper threw its weight behind Bill Cunningham, who ran against famously centrist Democrat Steve Levy as “the real Democrat.” Suffolk’s Democratic Party stood up to Klurfeld and chose Levy—and so did voters. Newsday’s silly rebuff of Alan Binder proved futile as well.
