47. Theresa E. Sanders

As the director of LI’s Urban League, Sanders oversees an operation that serves 15,000 African-American individuals and families throughout both counties, helping provide assistance and empowering people to become self-sufficient. Under her direction, the organization has plotted its future through the con- struction of a strategic plan that will continue to bolster community services for its clients, including establishing the LI Center for Community Empowerment. With too many people turning their backs on those needing a leg up, Sanders sets an example that, hopefully, will not be lost on the community at large.
