2016 Power List
Since he first joined the company in 1974, Seymour Liebman has proved he has the vision to take Canon U.S.A., Inc. from one century into the next. He’s overseen a key expansion of products and services that has kept this innovative corporation on the cutting edge of not just the imaging industry, but biotech and biomed as well. From its 700,000-square-foot headquarters in Melville—which he supervised the construction of—the workforce has grown to more than 1,600 employees. Along the way, Liebman became Canon, Inc.’s first non-Japanese employee to be named a managing executive officer. Fortune Magazine ranked Canon as one of the World’s Most Admired Companies in 2016, undoubtedly in no small part due to his masterful stewardship. Among Liebman’s many achievements, he’s vice chairman of Canon Solutions America, Inc., and serves on the Board of Directors of Canon Biomedical, which is devoted to revolutionizing biomedical research through technological breakthroughs. He’s on the Board of Governors of the Touro Law Center, Information Technology Industry Council, and along with fellow Power Lister Bruce Stillman, co-chairs LI Bio, a committee of the Long Island Association serving as a platform to help expand Long Island’s burgeoning sector of companies focused on biotechnology, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, cosmeceutical and life sciences. With Liebman guiding the way, Canon U.S.A. continues its legacy of innovation, creating products that not only touch countless lives, but make this world a better place in the process.
