7. Scott Rechler
2011 Power List
Despite the unceremonious end of the Lighthouse Project in Uniondale, RXR CEO Scott Rechler still remains a key ingredient in the development mix on Long Island. With more than 6 million square feet of existing commercial space and proposed developments such as the Glen Isle plan in Glen Cove, Rechler is LI’s reigning king of real estate. As one would expect from such a high-profile businessman, Rechler also supports cultural institutions such as the Long Island Children’s Museum and is heavily involved in the Association for a Better Long Island, a lobbying group. The Rechler name has long been synonymous with successful development and real estate on the Island. Scott Rechler is a third-generation developer, following in the footsteps of his late father Roger, a pioneer in the real estate world.
