7. Seymour Liebman
2014 Power List
Last year Seymour Liebman was promoted to senior executive officer of Canon, Inc., the first non-Japanese employee to achieve such an honor. Since then, he’s continued a mission he began in 1974, when he joined the company as a manager in its accounting department: shaping Canon U.S.A.’s direction, expanding its services, growing and strengthening its status as an innovator in digital imaging and environmental leader in corporate America. Liebman’s decisions have had far-reaching impact both in and outside of the boardroom, from the marketplace to the home. Canon U.S.A.’s opening last year of its state of the art, LEED-Gold-certified headquarters in Melville wasn’t just good business sense to house its ever-growing workforce of between 1,200 and 1,400 people onsite, it was a shining signal to corporations throughout the region that Long Island has a viable, promising economic future ahead. With Liebman at the helm, it’s guaranteed that Canon U.S.A. stays focused on its winning formula.
