6. Stuart Rabinowitz
2016 Power List
It was another good year for Stuart Rabinowitz and the Hofstra family. On short notice, the university, the largest private higher learning institution on the Island, played host to a U.S. presidential debate. In the process, Hofstra earned the designation as being the only university to host three such debates in consecutive elections. Rabinowitz, the university’s shepherd for nearly two decades, continues to raise Hofstra’s public image, even as his role on the Island has evolved. Rabinowitz is a member of the board of directors for the Long Island Association, Accelerate Long Island, and the Long Island Regional Advisory Council on Higher Education. He also serves as co-chair of the Long Island Regional Economic Development Council, with fellow Long Island Power Lister Kevin Law. In this role, Rabinowitz identifies opportunities and projects best positioned to create jobs, now, and ensures these are advanced as quickly as possible to yield short-term gains, while also laying the groundwork for growth in the long-term. Through his endeavors both in and out of academia, Rabinowitz strengthens Long Island, shaping our youth, and inspiring our future.
