Charles Vigliotti
Hall of Fame
Terms and phrases such as “innovation” and “in the vanguard” are too rarely used when speaking about Long Island companies, let alone waste management companies. But this is all about to change due to the efforts of Charles Vigliotti and his dogged determination to usher in a new era of sustainable waste management to the region. Approved for the region’s first anaerobic digestion operation, Vigliotti’s company, Long Island Compost, is poised to transform the way we handle waste in the most environmentally sound and efficient way possible. It is a time-tested process that is utilized extensively in Europe and in other parts of the United States, but one that has yet to be implemented successfully in New York. Vigliotti is a perennial Power List honoree—this year he is being inducted into the Power List Hall of Fame—for already being ahead of the curve with his enormous composting facility in Yaphank. Once the facility has transformed it will be able to convert waste into energy while taking tons of garbage out of the waste stream.
