David Wolkoff
2018 Power List
Developer, Heartland Business Center
A Harvard graduate with a Columbia MBA degree, David Wolkoff brings both financial and managerial knowledge and over 25 years construction-site experience to his role as a principal in the Wolkoff Group, Long Island’s biggest development firm as measured by current construction activity. Son of founder Jerry, the younger Wolkoff is currently hip-deep in overseeing the company’s two mega-projects: starting Phase II of construction at the Long Island City endangered-graffiti site known as 5Pointz, and – after decades of red tape delays – are readying to build Heartland Town Square in Brentwood into what could be the biggest housing project in Long Island history. The younger Wolkoff is also a principal at Heartland Business Center, a privately-owned family real estate business. The 5Pointz Towers in Long Island consists of two luxury upscale residential towers above a five-story podium, which includes over 1,000 residential units, 50,000 square feet of retail space, and parking for 250 cars. The Jackson Avenue block has been owned by his family for over 40 years. The second is the Heartland Town Square development in Brentwood, a 450 acre smart growth community consisting of 9,000 housing units, 3 million square feet of office and 1 million square feet of a lifestyle center. The Wolkoffs bought this property from the State of New York over 15 years ago. Wolkoff started his career at Chemical Bank in the Corporate Real Estate Group. He is a 1989 graduate of Harvard and received his MBA in 1994 from Columbia Business School. Wolkoff supports a number of charitable organizations including the Food Allergy Initiative.
