The odds of a woman on LI developing breast cancer are one in eight. We honor the efforts of all who fight this disease by recognizing five individuals who are making a difference. Wigler and Lucito, scientists at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, lead the Women’s Cancer Gene Initiative. Shari Schaeffer, a survivor, widower Howard Moskowitz, and Geri Barish, a survivor and founder of 1 in 9: The Long Island Breast Cancer Action Coalition, all do important organizing, advocacy and education.
