Harry Singh
2018 Power List
CEO, Bolla Management Corp
Like any good businessman, the superpower Harry Singh used to make his fortune was a keen sense of knowing what the market wants. And it all started with a simple observation of supply and demand while stuck in traffic. The Indian immigrant was driving a cab in New York City when he found inspiration in the long lines for a mechanic in Brooklyn. His idea? Open his own repair shop to meet the demand that local mechanics were not meeting. That shop grew to seven gas stations. Now, he’s diversified and has 75 convenience stores and gas stations, 16 repair shops and four car washes. His company also got into the fuel transportation business to save money on delivery costs. It founded Bolla Transport LLC, a modern fleet of high-tech trucks that delivers about 200 million gallons of fuel yearly to its company-owned stations, franchisees and independently operated locations that Bolla Oil serves. While he continues to grow his empire, Singh’s story is one of harnessing the power and promise of the American dream. He was a 26-year-old cabbie living in a city apartment who’s now a multi-millionaire living in a $23 million Old Westbury mansion. If that’s now powerful, we don’t know what is.
