Michael Dubb
2018 Power List
Founder & CEO, Beechwood Organization
Michael Dubb and his son Steven have built the Beechwood Organization, their family construction business, into what the Real Deal calls Long Island’s largest residential housing development company, building a broad spectrum of properties from affordable housing to luxury developments. Born in Williston Park, Michael has always been self employed, mowing lawns right out of high school and making money the old-fashioned way – one dollar at a time. While still in his 20s, he got his first construction project – an 18-house development in East Meadow – financed and completed. He’s continued building homes in the ‘90s, 2000s through to today. Since 1985, Beechwood has built over 7,000 homes in 60 communities across greater New York, including 4 million square feet in progress. Steven joined the family business in 2008, focusing on East End construction, including overseeing the company’s current prestige project – restoring the iconic Village Latch Inn Hotel in one of Southampton’s toniest stretches. The young man explains his career rise succinctly: “I fell into this business at birth.” Michael remains very much involved in all aspects of the business, although success allows him to spend more time indulging his love for fast horses upstate or in Florida managing his stable of 80 thoroughbreds. The senior Dubb serves on the board of the New York Racing Association. Behind the scenes, he’s helped fund a number of philanthropic programs to help provide needed social services for the families of stable workers and others in the racing industry.
