CEO, The American Red Cross on Long Island
Neela Mukherjee Lockel is chief executive of the American Red Cross on Long Island. In this capacity, she oversees Red Cross activities across Nassau and Suffolk Counties, and sits on the Senior Leadership Team of Greater New York. Lockel has more than 20 years of experience in the non-profit sector. Before coming to the Red Cross, she served as founding executive director of Girls Inc. of Long Island. Prior to assuming this role in 2012, she worked in academia as an adjunct instructor at Stony Brook University and served as director of Continuing Education for the Adelphi University School of Social Work as a program director at EAC Inc. Lockel has been recognized for leadership by the Shanti Fund and the American Heart Association. Lockel received a Master’s degree in Public and Non-Profit Management from the NYU Wagner School of Public Service, a Master’s degree in Social Work from Fordham University and a Bachelor’s degree from Bates College. She is a member of the Board of Advisors for the Energeia Partnership and holds Executive Leadership Certificates from both Fordham University and Adelphi University’s Center for Non-Profit Leadership. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Middle Country Library Foundation, the LIPA Community Advisory Board, and on the Girls Inc. of Long Island Gala Committee. She and her husband Dennis Lockel are raising two children in Suffolk County.
