Mayor of Patchogue
Patchogue Mayor Paul Pontieri has a reason to be excited about what’s happening in his hometown. After years of trying to return the village to its glory days and put its dark times behind it, Patchogue is now rightfully recognized as a destination for arts and entertainment on Long Island. Besides its arts scene, bustling downtown shops and restaurants and vibrant community, it will also soon welcome a new and improved Blue Point Brewing Co. brewery on the site of the former Briarcliffe College. With the TRITEC development completed, he oversaw the addition of 40,000 square feet of new retail, 15,000 square feet of new office space and 291 rental units — all in the heart of his village. Plus he’s also pushed for 45 affordable units for artists with the hope that helped create “a mini-Soho.” Those are just the highlights of this ambitious mayor’s agenda to grow his community with a well-thought-out plan that will bring tax revenue and young people to make Patchogue a thriving destination that is more than just a Long Island Rail Road stop, a dock for ferries to Fire Island and a performing arts theatre. It’s a vibrant place with a bright future. And with Pontieri, a lifelong Patchogue resident, guiding the efforts, he has the power to make sure the renaissance continues to gain steam.
