Thomas P. DiNapoli
Hall of Fame
First he lost a contentious primary for Nassau County Executive. Then after being a frontrunner for the Lt. Governor spot under Eliot Spitzer, he was passed over in favor of then-Sen. David Paterson. When scandal brought down Comptroller Alan Hevesi, DiNapoli was almost unanimously considered among his peers to be the right choice to restore credibility to that office. When Spitzer tore into DiNapoli in a public and petulant fashion, calling him unqualified to fill the position, it seemed as though DiNapoli couldn’t catch a break. Instead, he soldiered on receiving unprecedented support from his colleagues in Albany and becoming NY State Comptroller. With Albany and the economy crumbling around him DiNapoli stands tall amidst the scandal and corruption as LI’s favorite son. We all benefit from his faithful and honest public service.
