45. Vincent DeMarco
2007 Power List
DeMarco took office on Jan. 1, 2006, after a surprising victory, being only the third person in the last 30 years to unseat a countywide incumbent in Suffolk. He began his distinguished career as a Suffolk County Deputy Sheriff in 1994. He has been recognized for his commitment to law enforcement multiple times, including being honored for making the most arrests in a year. He’s already made his mark with just one year in office by reducing overtime by $1 million, sweeping up deadbeat dads and domestic violence offenders, and keeping an ever-watchful eye on the expansion of the new jail. Oh, and yes, the Suffolk sheriffs can pull you over and give you speeding tickets!
