2018 Power List
CEO, Catholic Health Systems
Alan D. Guerci, M.D., nationally known cardiologist and distinguished researcher, has been president and chief executive officer of Catholic Health Services of Long Island (CHS) since July 1, 2013. Previously, he was executive vice president for CHS and president and CEO of St. Francis Hospital, Mercy Medical Center and St. Joseph Hospital. A highly respected physician with a commitment to excellence and keen financial stewardship, Dr. Guerci is well versed in hospital administration. From the board room to the operating room, he is fully dedicated to CHS’s mission of healing and providing the highest level of quality health care. In 1999, he assumed executive leadership for The Heart Center at St. Francis Hospital after serving as St. Francis’s executive vice president for medical affairs and director of research. Through his guidance, The Heart Center has combined top-notch expertise in cardiovascular medicine and unrivalled nursing and diagnostic imaging services. Before joining CHS, Dr. Guerci had been the director of the Coronary Care Unit at Johns Hopkins Hospital, as well as chairman of the Clinical Trials Review Committee of the Heart, Lung and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health. A longtime resident of Sea Cliff with his wife Leslie, Dr. Guerci makes sure that the physicians at Catholic Health Services have access to the most advanced medical tools available to provide the best in-patient care. He’s the reason why St. Francis Hospital is not only New York State’s sole specialty designated cardiac center, but also one of the leading cardiac care programs in the country. His heart’s in the right place, and his many talents keep countless Long Islanders’ ticking, too.
