As chief executive and president of New York Community Bancorp, Joseph Ficalora heads the nation’s 22nd largest bank holding company with assets approaching $50 billion. He’s also a director of the company. Under his leadership, the institution has evolved from a mutual savings bank with seven branches in Queens and Nassau into a publicly-traded multi-bank holding company, with 255 branch offices serving consumers and businesses throughout the New York metropolitan area and four other states. The bank’s core strength is its New York City multi-family loan business. Ficalora was named a director at Federal Home Loan Bank of New York in January of this year. He currently serves on the American Bankers Council of the American Bankers Association and is a director of the New York Bankers Association whose Metropolitan Area Division group he chairs. Since 2004 Ficalora has been president of the Asset Management Fund – Large Cap Equity Fund, and since 2005 president of New York Commercial Bank. He’s a long-standing board member of the Queens Chamber of Commerce, the Foreign Policy Association, New York-Presbyterian/Queens and the Flushing Cemetery. He also serves on the boards of the Museum of the Moving Image and the New York Hall of Science. He is past president of the Queens Library Foundation and past chairman of the board of the Queens Borough Public Library. He graduated from Pace University with a degree in business and finance.
